Cliftonville Care Home Northampton
Once again the fabulous Markilux Pergola retractable fabric canopy system was chosen by the client as the best and most suitable product for protecting a first floor sun terrace from intense sunshine to provide comfort for the residents of a care home in Northampton.
Higher wind rating than a self supporting awning and capable of rain protection, this system is a very poular choice on commercial applications and a very sturdy and suitable product for so many applications too.
The balcony acts as a way to allow the residents to relax and enjoy the outsides without needing to go out of the building entirely. Of course, the British weather is rather changeable and prone to downpours, and this would not only provide a slipping hazard as well as potentially drenching the residents enjoying the outside. As a solution, they decided to install a pergola retractable roof system, which would enable them to open the area up on sunny days and keep the area and residents dry during the wetter times of year.
The Pergola was cantilevered as can be seen with the two support posts set back enabling the front to overhang the balcony for the best control possible of the sun during the day. Every Pergola system is electrically operated and this system has a far higher wind rating than a normal retractable self supporting awning.
The Pergola is offered with over 150 different fabric cover choices and 5 different standard frame colours with the option of any RAL colour if required. In this case, the frame colour perfectly matches that of the terrace itself, creating a very natural looking addition that not only looks great, but will be invaluable in protecting residents from burning sun or rain.
